Class 4412 low-floor EMU for ŽFBH
On 12 June 2008 the Croationa company Končar signed a 5,3 million EUR contract for a delivery of a prototype electric low-floor multiple unit for Željeznice Federacije Bosne i Hercegovine (ŽFBH, Railways of the Federation Bosnia and Herzegovina). For comparison: the Škoda Transportation company deliveries EMU of the class 471 ČD for 8,8 million EUR. The new EMU was presented for the first time on 28 September. According to information from ŽFBH the EMU will be operated between Sarajevo and Ploče. The prototype went through the first test runs in Croatia and also in Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the end of June 2010 the EMU was transported to the Test Centre of the Czech company Výzkumný Ústav Železniční (VUZ, the Railway Research Institute) at Velim to go through compulsory tests for the homologation of the railway vehicle.
The unit is designated for the 25 kV 50 Hz traction system. The maximum speed is 160 km/h, maximum tractive effort is 200 kN and the continuous power output is 2000 kW. Traction converters using IGBT technology feed four traction induction motors. The wheel arrangement is Bo´2´2´2´Bo´ with 2700 mm bogie wheelbase. The weight of the EMU is 148 tonnes, height is 4280 mm, width is 2885 mm and total length is 75 000 mm. The floor height is at 600 mm above rail. The unit offers 24 first class seats (1 + 2 arrangement), 143 second class seats (2 + 2 arrangement) + 9 tip-up seats and also 250 standees. The whole unit consists of four coaches: A (traction coach, 2nd class) + C1 (non-traction coach, 2nd class) + C2 (non-traction coach, 2nd class, WC, buffet compartment) + B (traction coach, 1st class). The EMU is fully air-conditioned and equipped with vacuum WC. The whole interior of the EMU is monitored by cameras. The space of both 1st and 2nd class is equipped with LCD screens.
