Split of Železnice Slovenskej republiky
After two put-offs on 1 January 2002 the company Železnice Slovenskej republiky (Railways of the Slovak Republic) was divided into two parts: Železničná spoločnosť a. s. (ZSSK) and Železnice Slovenskej republiky š. p. (ŽSR). ŽSR will be the infrastructure manager only and ZSSK will be a freight and passenger railway operator. ZSSK now consists of these parts: Division of railway vehicles, Division of passenger transport, Division of freight transport, the High Tatra Cableways, Commercially-transshipping centre Čierna nad Tisou and the Clearing centre of the railway receipts. All shares of the ZSSK company are held by the state.
