The doom of Pärnu – Mõisaküla railway

The article describes the history of railway lines around former Mõisaküla junction on the border between Estonia and Latvia. The narrow-gauge line Pärnu – Mõisaküla – Rūjiena – Valka, which was put into operation in 1896, was the very first railway line there. Later some of those narrow gauge railways were rebuilt to broad gauge lines, some of those railways were abandoned. After dissolution of the Soviet Union the broad-gauge line through Mõisaküla lost its importance. That's why the line on both side of the border was abandoned.
